This article describes the design optimization of a hydrodynamic brake with an electrorheological fluid. The is performed on basis mathematical model geometry and brake’s electrical circuit. parameters models are selected based experimental tests prototype brake. Six different objective functions minimized during optimization. created taking into consideration following factors: braking torque, weight, electric power absorbed by brake, torque rise time. assumed variables are: number blades radii (inner outer) working space. calculations for two intervals. first interval defined accuracy model. second, narrower tested prototypical On calculation results, general guidelines presented brakes ER In addition, possibilities optimizing determined.
